American Dies From Generic Viagra

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Bangkok- An American tourist died after taking a generic version of Viagra tablets for sexual activity before having sex with a Thai bar girl, police said Monday. The tourist, Aged 57, took three Generic Viagra (Kamagra) tablets, a drug to the same formula as Viagra, before climbing into bed with a sexy bar girl he had picked up on a Sunday night in the Thai resort town of Pattaya . He arrived in the coastal town, known for its steamy sex trade booming earlier in the day.
The girl reported to police during a half-hour after midnight that the American collapsed and stopped breathing during their intercourse. Thai Police officers found nothing unusual about the death in a room on the sixth floor of the New Star Apartments in Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung district, no signs of violence on his body, according to the website of the Nation Online. Investigators found four generic viagra tablets per box with only a single Kamagra pill left.

Generic Viagra, which dilates blood vessels, has been blamed for a number of deaths in the United States, even though the manufacturers say it is safe. The Thai medical board warned that generic viagra  (sildenafil), often bought online from unreliable sources, may contain impurities or may be stronger than was expected.

Viagra, Cialis, Levitra may cause hearing loss

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Viagra and other impotence drugs like Cialis from ELI Lilly, Levitra from Bayer are about to bear new warnings that users may experience sudden hearing loss.
It is not clear that these drugs truly trigger hearing loss, but the US Food and Drug Administration decided Thursday to add a warning about the possible risk after counting 29 reports of the problem since 1996 among users of this family of medicines.

The impotence drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra will bear the warnings. So will Revatio, a drug for pulmonary hypertension, which contains the same ingredient as Viagra.

Viagra’s label already mentioned hearing loss as a possibility, because a few cases were reported during initial testing of that drug.

Uncertain if link is real
But given that hearing loss is a risk of advancing age and certain conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease, that can lead to impotence, it wasn’t clear if the link was real.

That still is not clear, said FDA ear nose and throat specialist Dr Robert Boucher.

“We don’t know enough to say that it’s ironclad caused by the Cialis, Viagra, Levitra drugs, but we see enough to say we can’t ignore it either,” he said.

The reports involve hearing loss in one ear, which in a third of cases was temporary.

The US FDA urged patients who experience any hearing problems - loss or ringing in the ears - to promptly call their doctors and stop taking these impotence drugs

Aging and Sex

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Many people automatically assume that getting older will affect their sex lives for the worse. When women reach menopause, estrogen levels drop, leading to vaginal dryness and thinning of the vaginal wall that can make sex uncomfortable. Older men are at higher risk for prostate problems like prostatitis and cancer, both of which increase the risk for Erectile Dysfunction. And both men and women are at higher risk for a range of illnesses that can impact sexual performance and interest, from arthritis and rheumatism to high blood pressure and heart disease.

While it?s important to be aware of how the aging process can affect sexuality, its equally important not to view sexual problems as a natural part of aging. If people in their 50s and older experience a noticeable decline in their desire for sex or failure to become aroused, they should not hesitate to seek medical help. While sex tends to be associated with youth or having a family, it is much more than that it fulfills our basic need for close connection with another person. There is no good reason why people cant remain sexual beings throughout their entire lives, as long as they remain healthy. And sex can mean much more than intercourse; it encompasses many different ways of showing affection and sharing intimacy.
